Ruth Gore Howton

Mrs. Ruth Gore Howton, age 87, of Palestine, Ark., died Friday, May 17, 2013, at her home in Palestine. Mrs. Howton was born March 26, 1926, in Palestine. She was the daughter of Booker Gore and Lucy Jayroe Gore. Mrs. Howton had made her home in Palestine all of her life and was a housewife. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Church's Women's Ministries. Mrs. Howton served as the church's Sunday School Secretary for many years and was a member of the Order of the Easter Star no. 531. Mrs. Howton married Wilburn Howton in 1945. He survives her along with a son, Brent Howton, and wife Christie, of Palestine; two daughters, Linda R. Jeffrey and husband Michael of Newark, Ark., and Wanda Whittenton and husband Joe of Forrest City; one brother Donald Gore of Palestine; three sisters Christine James of West Memphis, Pat Wilkie of Forrest City and Sue Tiner of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren, Carma Mietzen, Alex Jeffrey, Seth Jeffrey, Natalie Barker, Matt Howton, J Bryan Whittenton, Will Whittenton and Lucas Whittenton. Two great-grandchildren also survive her, Kale Bryant Jeffrey and Whitt Jeffrey Mietzen. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Palestine. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery.
