GERALD LEE COGLETON, age 73, of North Little Rock, Ark., died in his home on Friday, May 17, 2013. Born July 13, 1939 in Mobile, Ala., he was the son of Albert and Viny (Connie) Congleton. He is survived by a brother, Albert Ross Congleton (wife Patti) of Sheridan, and sister, Eloise Thompson (husband Michael) of Sherwood; nephews, Allan Martin Taylor (wife Iysha) of Ward, and Albert Lee Congleton (wife Sherri) of Watson Chapel; great-nieces Allison Luise Congleton, Rylla E. L. Taylor; great nephews, Allan Michael Taylor, Jacob Albert Taylor; long time friends, Gayle Mawhinney, William Rains, and Nancy Davis. Gerald graduated from Ouachita Baptist College with a degree in political science and history. He held many important positions throughout his 34 years of service with the state government including Secretary of State, Department of Correction, State Building Services, and State procurement. He managed the design and implementation of the State's procurement card program. He was a friend to all, a mentor to many, and possessed a deep knowledge of Arkansas history. He was a lifelong student, and passionate about history, political science, and photography. His unique sense of humor will be missed by all. Gerald was a member of First United Methodist church of North Little Rock. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home in North Little Rock. A private graveside service will take place on Thursday.
