John Hill Yocum

John Hill Yocum Sr. passed away on May 19, 2013. He was born on June 14, 1925 in El Dorado to Dollie and David M Yocum Sr. He was a lifelong resident of El Dorado, graduating from El Dorado High School. He attended Davidson College and while there was called to duty in the United States Navy. During naval training he was sent to University of North Carolina and Notre Dame. After leaving the Navy as an ensign 1st class, he returned to Davidson where he graduated. He continued his education at University of Arkansas where he earned a masters degree. He dedicated his working life to Alice-Sidney Oil Company for 60 + years and made his last trip to the office only a few days before his death. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church as a deacon and an elder. He was also active in Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and served on numerous boards in the community. His greatest love, after his family, was his yard and gardening, which he has dearly missed these past years, earning him the infamous moniker - "The Yardman." He is survived by his wife of 64 wonderful years, Beverly Scull Yocum, children Lynn Yocum Dwight and husband, Jeff, John Hill Yocum, Jr., MD and wife Jane; grandchildren, Jennifer Dwight Corteville and Rick of San Francisco, Ann Henley Dwight of El Dorado, John Hill, III and Hunter Christian Yocum of Little Rock. He was lucky enough to enjoy his three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emma, and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Martha Yocum and nephew David Yocum, IV. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. David M Yocum, III. There are not enough words of thanks for Dr. William Harper and his staff. Thanks also to all who helped in his care at the hospital and Timberlane. Mary Post you are special to all of us. And many thanks to Mandy and Sandy for the kindness and love all these many years. Honorary pallbearers are John D. Trimble, IV, D R James, Charles VanNess, Charles Thomas, Robert Brown, Scott Yocum, Larry Tucker, Tim Ingram, Phillip Hogue, and Curt Morrill. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to one's favorite charity. Visitation will be at the home on Tuesday, May 21 from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Arlington Cemetery with service to follow at First Presbyterian Church.
