LaVerne Williams-Feaster

LaVerne Williams-Feaster, 86 of Little Rock, passed away, Monday, May 27 at her home. She was born October 14, 1926 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, the second child of the late James W. Williams Sr. and Alma D. Chism-Williams, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is her sister Freddie Mae Williams, two brothers: James W. Williams Jr. and Clarence S. Williams Sr., and a nephew James W. Williams III. She was a graduate of Arkadelphia Cotton Plant Presbyterian Academy in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She was also a graduate of Swift Presbyterian Junior College in Rogersville, Tennessee. She received her BS Degree from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. After teaching one year in Tennessee, She LaVerne returned to Arkansas and taught at Augusta and Dermott, Arkansas High Schools from 1950 until 1963. In 1963, she began working with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in Clark County. She retired after 29 years of Extension working as a District Agent and State Leader of 4-H. LaVerne was a member of Allison Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was one of the first female Elders in the Arkansas Presbytery. She was a member of the General Assembly Council for six years and worked in many State, Regional and General Assembly events and programs. She was a dedicated leader of her church and community. Some of the community groups in which she worked were Southern Bancorp Corporation, JCCDA, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Links, Inc. In 1953 LaVerne married Williams D. Feaster. This marriage continued for 58 years until he passed away on August 16, 2011. There were no children born to this union, but they raised two children as their own, Sam L. (Marie) Hart and Jennifer Bryant both of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday evening May 31 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Allison Presbyterian Church, 922 Wright Avenue in Little Rock. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at Allison Presbyterian Church in Little Rock with Reverend Marion Humphrey officiating. Internment will take place at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Little Rock at a later date. Memorial may be made to: Allison Presbyterian Church in the name of LaVerne Feaster.
