Billy Mitchell "Mickey" Moon

Billy Mitchell "Mickey" Moon, age 70, of Romance, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 29, 2013. He was born July 7, 1943, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Bill Taylor and Fredda Moon. Mr. Moon graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1961 and attended the University of Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 38 years; four children, Michelle Moon Rochner and husband Larry of Romance, Joe David Moon and wife Audrey of Van Buren, Phillip Brand Moon of Texas, and Neal Swaim Moon of Little Rock; eight grandchildren, Matt, Dylan, and Abby Hawkins, Noah Rochner, Cameron and Collin Claybaugh, and KayLee and Derek Moon; three great-grandchildren, Riley Hawkins, Issaic Claybaugh, and Alexis Claybaugh; one brother; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fredda Moon and brother, Freddie Don Moon. Mr. Moon started the Ray Deer Club in Herbine and was a former member of the Big Island Hunting Club, as he was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, a consummate outdoorsman with trophies that adorn his home. Mr. Moon retired from AT&T after 26 years of service and was steward of the CWA during his employment there. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He also enjoyed the time on his farm raising cattle and gardening despite his crippling rheumatoid arthritis Overcoming and adapting to any situation, he made the most of his life and enriched the lives of those around him. Although he will be missed, his legacy of never giving up and carrying on through even the most crippling of circumstances will live with those who knew and loved him. Gone but never forgotten. Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at Olmstead Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Rose Bud Cemetery at 10 a.m. with Rev. Donnie Copeland officiating.
