Daphna Lewis Storm passed away in her home October 30th, 2013. She was born in Thornton, Arkansas on March 27th, 1918. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allie and Rayburn Maynard and Charles Lewis, and her husbands Robert Wheat Goss, of 22 years, and Fred C. Storm of 54 years. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of North Little Rock. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1934, after skipping 2 grades from 1st to 12th. She graduated from Little Rock Junior College in 1936. In high school and college she participated in the Theatre club, Theatre Guild and acted in plays. She was on the Trojan Forum, and the International Relations Club. After graduating HS at age 16 she traveled solo to California by train. She was a member of the Championship Debate Team, Phi Rho Pi, and was a Beauty Contestant. Her first job out of college was at Metropolitan Life Insurance. She managed her first husband's business during World War II and was a Nurse's Assistant at the same time. Leaving that as she was quite "squeamish" about blood. She was a homemaker for 36 years and went back to work as a Nutrition aide for the University of Arkansas Extension service when the baby was in High School. She worked in the 70s and 80s teaching basics on diet, shopping, cooking and budgeting. She modeled, was an avid gardener, loved dancing, and playing bridge and helping her community. She was in a Circle at the Church, an original member of the NLR Junior Auxiliary and a sustainer of the NLR Junior League, served on the Cancer Society and chaired many funding drives, and was an officer in the Progressive Club in Little Rock where she served in many offices. Her motto in her Senior yearbook was "Life is so short, why not have a good time?" In her 95 years she lived through the depression, was widowed twice, lost so many members and most of her friends, but she did have a great, fun life. She and Fred built a home, traveled all 50 states, much of Europe and more. She was a wonderful writer who documented most of it and left behind a wonderful legacy to her family filled with love and adventure. She leaves behind four children: sons David Goss of the City, Steve Goss, (Janice) of Hot Springs, Martha Garrison (Dale) of Nashville, Tenn. and Cecily Storm of Fayetteville, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Visitation is at Roller-Owens Funeral Home on JFK from 6-8 p.m. Friday and the Funeral will be at First Methodist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. in NLR, also on JFK.
