George M. Cone

Dr. George M. Cone, 75, of Jonesboro died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at his home. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, serving as the chairman of the UT college of Dentistry Alumni board of Trustees and president of the Dental Alumni Association. He served his profession as the president of the Arkansas State Dental Association, the Tri-State Section of the American College of Dentist and the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners. While active in the Methodist Church, he filled many positions of leadership including Sunday School teacher, certified lay leader, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Paragould-Jonesboro District, delegate to the annual Conference, and board member of Methodist Family Health. He served as president of the Osceola Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Survivors include his wife, Lorice Sorrells Cone; two sons, Wilton Mitchell Cone (Caroline) of Brentwood, Tenn., and James Michael Cone (Carol) of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Newberry of Damascus, Ark. and Shirley Sarris of Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Reverend John Soward and Patty Soward officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 Monday night at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
