Jinnings George Burruss, age 92 of Bradford, Ark., passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at White County Medical Center. He was born to the late Walter and Sarah Burruss in Yellville, Ark. on Dec. 23, 1920. Jinnings was raised during hard times. In addition to farming, he and his brother, Hugh, often hunted small game to provide food for the family and furs to be sold. Jinnings served in the Navy during WWII as a ships fireman and piloted a landing craft transporting troops in the Pacific. He farmed for many years and worked as a pipeline foreman and carpenter. Jinnings loved to fish, garden, make pecan pies and play with the grandkids. Jinnings was a wonderful father and husband. He had a brilliant sense of humor and was always kidding around with friends and family. He was a respected member of the community and loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Bright Burruss; sons, Noel and Terry Burruss; daughter, Kay Burruss Throckmorton; brothers, Joe, Jack, Hugh and Charles Burruss; sisters, Prilda Gray, Audia Burruss, Clyde Harris, Georgia Stratton and Helen Reed. Surviving are children, Bill Burruss (Mary), Bradford, Brenda Matchett (Tim), North Little Rock, Jeannie Ouellette (Dave), North Little Rock, Helen Pankey (Leck), Bradford, Mariann Garrett (Tom), Connecticut; sister, Mary Etta West, Bald Knob; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oakland Church with interment following in Oakland Cemetery at Bradford.
