Elizabeth Ann Wheelis, 89, of Midland, Texas, formerly of Hot Springs, Arkansas died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born August 29, 1924 in Wilton, Arkansas to Joshua M. and Nannie K. Lay. Ann was a woman of strong faith and integrity, and loved her Lord and her family. She was a charter member of Hot Springs Baptist Church. She worked at Arkansas Bank & Trust for Cecil Cupp, Sr., completing her 19 year tenure as Administrative Officer. She previously worked as a roundhouse clerk for Kansas City Southern Railroad and held several civil service positions with the U.S. Air Force at bases across the U.S., including Stuttgart AFB, Ark., Williams AFB, Ariz., Scott AFB, Ill., Kelly AFB, Texas, and Barksdale AFB, La. Ann Wheelis served in the Women's Chamber of Commerce, serving as President one year and as the 1982 Conference Chairman. She served in the National Conference of Women in Chambers of Commerce, serving as President in 1984. She was named Woman of the Year in 1981 by the Hot Springs Women's Chamber of Commerce. She also enjoyed serving in the Ambassador Club. Survivors include a sister, Octavia Seals of Skiatook, Okla., two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Wendy Wheelis of Midland, Texas, J.D. and Kaye Wheelis of Round Rock, Texas, a son-in-law Steven Henderson, of Jenks, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Michael Wheelis, Elizabeth Wheelis, Katie Wheelis, Tori Wheelis, Scott Henderson, Sarah (Henderson) Lee, Lucas Henderson, two great-grandchildren, and a nephew Gary Seals of Skiatook, Okla.. She was pre-deceased by her husband of sixty years, Roy W. Wheelis, and her daughter, Kay (Wheelis) Henderson. The service will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Pounders officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers are Wayne Wheelis, J.D. Wheelis, Steve Henderson, Gary Seals, Michael Wheelis, and Scott Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers are James Gill, Steve Gill, John Paul Higdon, Richard "Buddy" Higdon, Jolly Higdon, Tom Higdon, Phil Higdon, Sue Ferrill, Orville Albritton, and "The Grub Club". In lieu of flowers, family and friends are invited to make donations to a Baptist mission or education fund or the Nancy K.
