John Bennett Douglass, age 81, of Jacksonville went to be with The Lord on Friday, November 15, 2013. He was born at home on April 27, 1932 in Jacksonville, Arkansas to the late Thomas Bennett Douglass and Maria Wilkinson Douglass. He was preceded in death by one brother Tom Douglass. John leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Joanne Watson Douglass, to cherish his memory along with their two children, Pamela Douglass Kanakis (husband, Kim) of North Little Rock and Phillip Alan Douglass (wife, Beth) of Jenks, Oklahoma. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Amanda Orr Whittaker and husband, Jon of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Lauren Orr Dennis and husband Josh, of North Little Rock, Adrian Douglass and Kate Douglass of Jenks, Oklahoma as well as five great-grandchildren, Eva and Kellan Whittaker and Sawyer, Gage and Ruby Dennis, one sister, Margaret Payne of Boca Raton, Florida, and one brother, Jim Douglass of Cabot. John retired with over 35 years of service to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and service to his country in the United States Naval Reserve. He was a member of Jacinto Masonic Lodge #216 in Jacksonville. Special thanks to the loving and caring staff of Walnut Grove Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Springdale, where he spent the last five years of his life. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2103 at First United Methodist Church; 220 West Main Street; Jacksonville. Interment will follow at Bayou Meto Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson Association www.parkinson.org, the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville or the Jacinto Masonic Lodge #216 in Jacksonville.
