Gail Deveny Wardlaw, 85, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at home. She was the daughter of the late Ellen and Paul Deveny of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She lived in Nebraska until she was ten years of age, where her maternal grandparents Orpha and Edward Rogers pioneered western Nebraska. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1946 and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello. A lifetime member of Second Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school and served on the Altar Guild. She organized a Volunteer Program for preschool children that still exists today. She was also a member of the Arkansas State Dental Auxiliary and the Central District Auxiliary serving on the Student Loan Fund Committee. She was a member of the Country Homes Garden Club. She also served as President of the local Delphi Society. A long time supporter of the Salvation Army; she hosted many fundraisers in their home. Her passions in life were her four children, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She always supported her husband, Fay, in his educational goals and his profession. Her interests outside her family revolved around interior design, including a period as a co-owner of Hillcrest Interiors. She freelanced for her friends, her children's friends and anyone else that asked. She loved gardening, landscaping and entertaining in their home and lakehouse at Lake Ouachita, fondly known as Treetops. She loved making life beautiful. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Dr. Fay O. Wardlaw; her children, Pam Wardlaw Cathey, Marsha Wardlaw Clevenger, Dr. David Wardlaw and wife, Susie Wardlaw of Little Rock and Beverly Wardlaw Pierce and husband, Dr. Barry Pierce of Mountain View, Arkansas. Her grandchildren include Jason Knapp (Nicole) of Conway, Jacqueline Wallace Bolin (Billy), of Cabot, Wilson Clevenger of Fayetteville, Austin Clevenger of Fort Hood, Texas, Scott Wardlaw and Robert Wardlaw of Little Rock; great-grandchildren include Olivia and Taylor Knapp, Madison and Jaelyn Bolin. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Deveny (Janismarie) of Corona, California, a sister-in-law, Catherine Deveny of Monroe, Louisiana and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by parents, Ellen and Paul Deveny, an infant sister, Beverly Deveny, a sister, Gwendolyn Sechrest, a brother, Dr. Robert L. Deveny and grandson, Winston Penn Wardlaw. The Wardlaw family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Gail's loving caregivers; Elizabeth Aubrey, Linda Reeves and Brenda Barnum. Your loving care and dedication made a real difference in her life. Memorials may be made to the Winston Penn Wardlaw Memorial Scholarship Fund at Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held, Friday, November 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas with Rev. Steve Hancock officiating.
