James Roy Fawcett, 80, of Ward passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. He was born Aug. 15, 1933 in Sylvania, Ark. to the late William Clarence "Jack" and Dora Lee Fawcett. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Bobby and Carl. He grew up in the Sylvania community working on the family farm where he acquired an incredibly strong work ethic that he passed along to his sons. Mr. Fawcett graduated from Cabot High School in 1951 and later joined the United States Army with his good friend Bob Duke and became a Korean War Veteran. He then worked for the Timex Corporation for the next 41 years. He attended and loved his church family at Country Chapel Church. Anyone who knew Roy knew what a gentle and kindhearted man he was. He taught his children to love God and their fellow man. He was a man of simple pleasures that loved his Cabot Panthers, the Arkansas Razorbacks, his family and friends, gospel singing, Blue Bell ice cream and a good plate of catfish. He would do anything for anybody and he never met a stranger. His greatest pleasure in life came in seeing or watching his grandkids do anything. Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice of the home. He is also survived by two sons, Wayne (Laura) of Paris, Ark., and Rocky (Michele) of Sherwood, Ark.; and his four grandchildren, Will, Lizzie, Reid, and Jake Fawcett; and countless other extended family and friends. Anyone who knew him recognized that his family was his world. Mr. Fawcett's family would like to thank the team of Doctor Lawrence Mendelsohn, Doctor Randy Jordan, and Doctor Alex David and the team of incredibly caring nurses on the tenth floor of Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock for their loving care and kindness shown to us and our Daddy. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Country Chapel Church in Ward, Ark. Family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Country Chapel church at Sylvania, Ark. with burial in Sylvania Cemetery. Arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home, a Smith Family Funeral Home. www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
