Loury G Fredieu

Loury G. Fredieu, 88, went to be with the Lord October 5, 2013. He was born in Colfax, Louisiana on October 26, 1924 to Walter and Ruth Dean Fredieu. Loury worked at Arkla Gas Company as Communications Superintendent for 33 years; he helped pioneer some of ARKLA's first telephone, two-way radio, and telemeter systems, retiring after 35 years. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Army Medical Corps in China, Burma, India theatre of war and was assigned to the 142 General Hospital in Calcutta, India. Loury was a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church since 1968, a member of the Lost Cord Club of Central Arkansas,(a support group for laryngectomees). He was an avid fisherman, gardener and was especially fond of roses, he also liked wood working, carving, painting and photography. In 1987 Loury was appointed by then Governor Bill Clinton to the State Board of Examiners for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists where he served two terms. In 1993 he was elected to the Board of Directors of International Association of Laryngectomees where he served two terms. Awards included the Channel 4 Community Service Award and the JC Penney Golden Rule Award. Loury was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter Eugene Fredieu. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lorene; sister in law, Edwenia Fredieu; two nieces, Dayna Endersen and Paula Fredieu; nephew, Loren Fredieu; and cousin, Gerald Paul Fredieu. He also leaves a host of family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made in Loury's name to Lost Cord Club of Central Arkansas, American Cancer Society, 901 North University, Little Rock, Arkansas 72207. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills, 10200 Hwy. 5 N, Alexander, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the chapel with burial at Forest Hills Memorial Park with Brother Ted Stanton officiating.
