Opal Bernice Chatman Scogin

Opal Bernice Chatman Scogin, age 93 of Monticello passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Born September 30, 1920 in Drew County, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Chatman and Lemmie Barnett Chatman. She was the widow of Elvin Scogin, a homemaker, a retired Burlington Industries employee and a member of the Second Baptist Church. Mrs. Scogin loved to read her Bible and enjoy her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter. Survivors include two sons, Don Scogin of Monticello and Dennis Scogin and wife, Margie of Newark; two daughters, Brenda Gentry and husband, Ralph of Lonoke and Freda Baker and husband, Ken of Oak Grove, Mo.; one brother, Bernard Chatman of Monticello; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel by Rev. Chad Graves and Rev. Ray Hearron.
