Wilma Jean Beel

Wilma Jean Beel Long of Fort Smith, Ark. passed away Oct. 26, 2013 at Peachtree Village Assisted Living in Fort Smith. She was born March 24, 1936 in Ozark, Ark. to Raymon and Myrtle Mae Inman Beel. She was a medical assistant and office manager in Ozark before moving to Fort Smith where she was a homemaker and worked for H&R Block during tax season. She was a 1952 graduate of Ozark High School and Westark Community College in 1983. In recent years, she enjoyed the monthly dinner meetings held with her high school classmates. Wilma loved working with stained glass, traveling, and fishing with her husband. She was an avid Razorback fan. Outside of her family her greatest love was her dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 36 years, Dr. Clifton Clay Long Jr.; two brothers, Jack and Douglas Beel. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at Shaffer Chapel in Ozark, Ark. with Reverend Jan Akins and Pastor E. Wayne Drain officiating, with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark, under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Susan Pierce of Fayetteville; three stepdaughters, Mary Gardner of Springdale, Joan McKinney and husband Tim of Batesville, and June Drain and husband Wayne of Russellville; and a stepson, Cliff Long III, of Ozark; 11 grandchildren: Heather, Shayne, and Josh Gardner, Mary Gardner-Burrelle, Leah Rice, Christopher Drain, Esther Gifford, Keith Long, Rhian Jerrell, Clay Long, Meredith McKinney; nine great grandchildren: Blake Gifford, Cate Rice, Jackson Gardner, Charles Gardner, Madison Gifford, Amelia Rice, MacKenzie Jerrell, Sophie Burrelle, and Harrison Gardner; a niece, Roxanne Stouffer; husband, Danny; and her dog LuLu. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28th at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark. Honorary pallbearers are classmates from the Ozark High School graduating class of 1952.
