Charlotte "Chottie" Jernigan Abernathy, age 89 1/2, died peacefully on September 14, 2013. She was a graduate of Little Rock Senior High School and Little Rock Junior College. (UALR) She was an Elder Officer and Sunday School Teacher at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully as the church secretary for 23 years. Prior to that, she taught kindergarten at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church and was the organizer and first President of the Arkansas Presbytery Administrative Personnel Association. Charlotte worked several sessions in the Arkansas House of Representatives and was chief of the steno pool in 1967 and 1969. She was a member of the Women's Emergency Committee To Open Our Schools, a volunteer at Stewpot, a charter member of Bas Bleu, and member of AARP Chapter #34. Charlotte is survived by: two sons; Guy Abernathy and his wife Suzanne, Mark Abernathy and his wife Lyne, three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandson, five step-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John E. "Bunny" Abernathy, her sister Juanita "Nita" Cawvey, her brother, Lt. Colonel Jack Jernigan and her daughter Jan Abernathy at 2 1/2 years of age. Charlotte was always the life of the party. With a shining positive attitude, she set a great example of how to live life to the fullest. Until a month ago, she was driving herself all over town, playing bridge daily, and making regular trips with family and friends to Tunica. Her zest for life, faith, generosity and fierce love of family, church, and friends, will forever live on in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013. The Reverend Ruskin Falls officiating. An informal reception and celebration of Charlottes life will be held at Red Door restaurant immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church or Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home & Family Services in Little Rock, Arkansas. www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
