The pearly gates of Heaven opened Tuesday, September 24, 2013 to welcome home Virginia Weir, at the age of 91. She was born on December 29, 1921 in Gravel Hill, Arkansas to the late W.G. and Nora Burkett. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Rev. Chester Weir. She assisted him in his ministry by teaching Sunday School Class, visiting shut-ins, cooking many meals for various functions, and raising their one daughter. She was a faithful member of Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Sanford Burkett, T.E. Burkett, and Dayton Burkett, and one grandson Jay Shelton, all of central Arkansas. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jane Shelton, son-in-law Ricky Shelton, two grandsons, Tim Shelton, and Eric Metz, one great-granddaughter Jayden Shelton and many nieces and nephews all of central Arkansas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice 14 Parkstone Circle North Little Rock, AR 72116 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 1022 North Little Rock, Arkansas 72115-1022. Funeral services will be 1: p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church in North Little Rock with Rev. Mark Stripling officiating. Interment will follow in Weir Cemetery.
