George Rufus Maloney Jr.

Dr. George Rufus Maloney Jr., Physician, of Evans, Ga., entered into rest at his home after a prolonged illness Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, Dr. George Rufus Maloney Jr., beloved husband of Theodora V. Maloney. He was born Aug. 25, 1933 in Augusta, Ga. He attended grammar school, high school and junior college in Augusta before serving in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. After leaving the service, he studied Pharmacy at the University of Georgia, earning many honors in Pharmacy and Chemistry. He was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude. Following this, he was admitted to the Medical College of Georgia from where he graduated in 1964. He served his residency in Urology at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta and practiced Urology at Emory University before returning to Augusta to start his private practice in Urology in 1973. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff at University Hospital during the late 1970's. He leaves behind two daughters Kay M. Templeton (Dr. Damon) of Martinez, Ga., and Diane E. Maloney of North Augusta, S.C. He is also survived by his grandson John D. Templeton. There will be no formal service. A private celebration of life service will be held in the near future.
