Birdie West Holland

Mrs. Birdie West Holland, 92, of Portland, died Friday, April 4, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Holland was a native of Des Arc and a resident of Portland for the past 67 years. She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member and faithfully attended the Portland Baptist Church, while her health permitted, where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and she loved working in her yard and caring for her dogs. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William "Bill" Holland in 2007; her parents, Noah & Betty West; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Harris and husband, Carroll, of Portland; a grandson, Greg Gilliam and wife, Glena, of Fort Smith; a great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Gilliam; and her special caregivers, Alma Moore, Billy & Shawn Bassett. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Monday at the Portland Baptist Church with burial in the Portland Cemetery.
