Dana Jo Smith, age 60, of Cabot was called home by our Lord and Savior, Monday, April 7, 2014. She was born June 25, 1953 in Little Rock to John Daniel and JoAnn Holman. Dana was very devoted to her family and to her faith. She attended Lonoke Baptist Church and was employed with the Lonoke County Sheriff's Department. Dana devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and that devotion to her family was never more evident than in her five year battle with cancer. Her determination to overcome the disease was a testament to her overwhelming spirit to live another day and touched so many lives. Her fight continued until the angels escorted her home. Cherishing here memory are her husband of 40 years, Ronald "Ronnie" Smith; son, Jacob Smith (Tina); daughter, Rachel Fryar (Chad); mother, JoAnn Holman; sister Sherry Fitzhugh (Carl); Kim Price (Richard); Jessica Hughes (Michael); four grandchildren, Jayla Luxton, Kelby Smith, Channer Smith and Marlee Jo Fryar and a host of other loved ones which includes nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will miss her dearly. Dana was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Pat Holman, Euel Jesse and Mattie McMorris; father, John Daniel Holman and one sister, LeAnn Holman. The family would like to extend its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Lawrence Mendelsohn and his outstanding and caring staff at Little Rock Hematology/Oncology Associates, the compassionate staff at Arkansas Hospice and the 5th and 10th floor nursing staff at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock for their caring and nurturing spirit. An open visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday evening, April 9, 2014 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock. A celebration of Dana's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Chapel with Brother Jimmy Wallace officiating and interment to follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
