Carolyn Sue Essig Holt, of McRae, Arkansas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother & friend, left this earth to be with the Lord on April 8, 2014. Born November 1, 1939 in McRae, Arkansas, Sue grew up and lived her whole life in McRae. On May 15, 1958 she married her soulmate, Don Holt. Sue and Don shared many happy years together and were approaching their 56th wedding anniversary in May. Sue was a Baptist and loved the Lord. The greatest love of Sue's life was her family. Just the mention of any of Sue's children or grandchildren or great grandchildren would bring a smile to her face. Surviving are her spouse Don Holt of McRae, daughter Cyndi (Keith) McElmurry of McRae, sons, Jeff Holt of McRae and Kevin (Georgia) Holt of McRae. Also surviving are siblings Katherine (Charlie) Silva of Cloverdale, Calif., Marie (Joe) Bascomb of Glen, Miss., and Clarence "Sonny" (Wanda) Essig of Buckner, Mo. Eight grandchildren are left with wonderful memories of their Gran Gran: Christopher McElmurry, Chad and Chess Holt, Heather Holt Brown, Matt (Jessica) Holt, all of McRae, Seth (Jessica) Skinner of Beebe, Christina Holt and Jonathan Holt of Mayflower. Gran Gran also had four great grandchildren. Along with these family members, Sue leaves behind a large number of other relatives and friends who are thankful to have been blessed to have been part of her life. Preceding Sue in death were her parents Clarence Essig, Clara & Howard "Buster" Smith, Helen "Auntie" & Dewitt "DeeDee" Strayhorn. Susie, as Don called her, enjoyed life to the fullest and loved their life adventures. As you visited Susie's home, you saw a passion of gardening, beautiful flowers that attracted hundreds of hummingbirds yearly. She loved to fish, as she inspired her children at a young age going to every creek & pond in sight. Sue and Don continued their world travels and love of fishing with friends throughout the years. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery.
