Virgil Ray McGough Sr.

Virgil Ray McGough Sr. age 87 went home to his heavenly father on April 11, 2014 after several years of illness. Virgil was born on Oct. 22, 1926. He was the son of Thomas Earl and Maggie Lee (Wooten) McGough. He was a native of Union County, Ark. and born of ancestor's who settled in the county around the 1800's in the area of Lawson. Virgil was married to Susie Joan Thomas and just recently past their 70th anniversary on April 10. He was a member of Hillsboro Street Church of Christ. Virgil served in the Navy during World War II. He was a gifted mechanic, woodworker and crafter of Stained Glass. He was retired from Monsanto and Ciba Giegy. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jay Lavelle McGough and Kenneth Earnest McGough. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Susie McGough of El Dorado; his children, Ruth Evelyn Hughes of Oklahoma City, Okla., Virgil Ray McGough Jr. and wife, Lois of Rosston, Ark., Sharon Yates of Rockaway Beach, Mo.; Shirley Ann Knieper and husband, Louis of Minn.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and host of friends. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Hillsboro Street Church of Christ with John Fields officiating. Burial will follow at Rhodes Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado. Pallbearers will be David Barham, Garrett Barham, Bo Purtle, Ryan McGough, Karl Blankenship and Tanner Dippolito.
