Robert H. "Bob" Archer

Robert H. "Bob" Archer, age 88 of El Dorado, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Medical Center of South Arkansas. Bob was born on January 21, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to the late Rowena Lou Roe Archer and Lee Roy Archer. He graduated from Grand Prairie High School, attended Magnolia A&M, and graduated from North Texas State University. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a gunnery instructor in the European Theatre, during World War Two. He worked for the Mercantile Bank in Dallas prior to joining his uncle, D.M. Hawkins, in the insurance and later real estate business in El Dorado in the 1950's. He continued his career in the insurance and real estate business working at Thompson-Holloway Agency and later at VanNess, Hosford and Archer Agency. Always civic minded, he belonged to and held leadership positions in several local organizations. He served on the Union County Quorum Court as a Justice of the Peace for twenty years and continued to regularly perform marriage ceremonies throughout the county until his health began to fail. He was awarded honorary, lifetime membership in the El Dorado Civitan Club. He was an active, faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, serving in many leadership capacities including Deacon and Elder. He practiced honesty and integrity in his dealings with others and enjoyed the company and love of his family and countless friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, an infant granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Deese and a grandson, William Lee Boyer. He often referred to himself as the "last Leaf." Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jackie Archer; children, Susie LaRue and husband Mike, Evelyn Deese and husband Bill, Lee Archer and wife Nancy and Bill Archer and wife Sonya; grandchildren, Joy Brock and husband Jason, Allison Clark and husband John, Robbie Archer, Matt Archer, Eli Archer, Nicole Pace and husband Joshua, John Boyer and wife Elizabeth, Jason LaRue and wife Laura and Bryan LaRue; great-grandchildren, Aaron Brock, Mary Webb, Anna Clark, Gracie Brown and Kinley Stephens. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Patrick Fleming officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception, after the service, at the church. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the El Dorado Civitan Club.
