Sherod Smith White

Sherod Smith White was born March 1, 1929 to Mitchell Erwin and Ruby Edna White in Greenville, N.C. He was educated in Greenville City Schools and attended East Carolina University before being drafting into the U.S. Army in 1951. He spent the majority of two years as a high speed radio operator for the 16th Corp. stationed in Sendai, Japan during the Korean War. In 1953, he married Grace Elizabeth Breedlove and began work with Commercial Credit Corporation. Later he went to work with First Citizens Bank in Raleigh, N.C. to assist with the installation of the bank's first computer system. In 1967, Sherod went to work for Commercial National Bank in Little Rock, Ark., also to install the first computers for the bank. In 1982, he was hired as President of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Des Arc, Ark. and later helped with the formation of Security Bancshares Holding Company. Sherod retired from the banking business in 1999 and moved with Grace to Hot Springs Village, Ark., where they both attend Village Bible Church. Sherod was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mitchell White Jr.; and a sister, Emmy Penney. He is survived by his wife, Grace; sons Tim White (Karen), Tyler White; and daughter, Tara White Heil (Ted); as well as numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Sherod's life will be held at 2 p.m. on May 3 at Caruth Village Funeral Home, 4623 North Hwy. 7, Hot Springs Village. The family has suggested that those wishing to remember Sherod may do so with memorial gifts to Teen Challenge or the Boys & Girls Club of Hot Springs Village.
