Byron A. Watson, 89, of Springfield, Mo., left to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 1, 2014, in his home. He was born July 1, 1925, in The Liberty Community, Faulkner County, Ark., to Byron A. Watson Sr. and Lillie Mae (Price) Watson. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific aboard the Destroyer USS McCord from 1942 until the end of the war. He married Alzora Phillips on Nov. 22, 1945. He farmed for several years after WWII, then later worked in the insurance and real estate business, and then a retail business. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was an avid reader and gardener. He was a member of Glendale Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Everett and wife Eunice; two sisters, Hazel Nipps, Maxine Ulmer and husband Jim; sister-in-law Nell; and brother-in-law, Doug Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Alzora; son, Ron Watson and wife Jeannine of Springfield; granddaughter, Rhonda White and husband Kelly of Cloverdale, Ind.; grandson, Lance and wife Wendy of Springfield; great-granddaughters, Jessica Manuel, Abigail and Tanner White, and Makaela and Dalton Watson; step-grandchildren, Taylor Seevers, Christian and Ashlyn Flesher, Brede, Kellcey, Taylor, Nicholas, Kirrin, and Ryann Nielsen; five brothers, Vollie and wife Sue of Conway, Ark., Wayne and wife Annette of Vilonia, Ark., Dennis and wife Pat of Blanchard, La., Eugene of Springdale, Ark., and Dwight of Conway, Ark.; three sisters, Jewel Johnson of Shreveport, La., Virginia Cash and husband Walter of Crossville, Ala., and Pauline Stevenson of Springdale, Ark.; brother-in-law, Garland Nipps of Benton, Ark.; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with Reverend Mitch Wright officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glendale Baptist Church. The family wishes to give special thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice for their compassionate care.
