Judge Norman Harkey

Judge John Norman Charles Harkey of Batesville was born Feb. 25, 1933 to the late O.J. & Margaret Fleming Harkey of Ola, Ark. and died Aug. 1, 2014. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Willa Charlton, formerly of Fayetteville; two children, Judge John Adam Harkey of Batesville and Sarah Ashley Mayfield of Springdale; four grandchildren, Autumn Jones, Alex and Brad Mayfield, and Hannah Harkey; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Eli Jones; and a half-brother, JB Arnold. His step-father, J. Burton Arnold II, preceded him in death. He attended school in Hardy and various places before graduating Batesville High School in 1950. He was a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After graduating the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in 1959, he practiced law in Batesville. He became a Judge in 1989 until his retirement in 2008. Services will be held Tuesday Aug. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Independence County Courthouse in Batesville.
