Lynn Bruce Plummer

Lynn Bruce Plummer was the younger of identical twins born June 24, 1934 to Ernest D. and Ethel (Brown) Plummer in Memphis, Tennessee. He passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas. He grew up in Marianna, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1952. After two years at Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in Magnolia, he was accepted into the Naval Cadet program at Pensacola. His only goal at that time was to become a Naval Aviator. He received his wings in 1956 and began training aboard an aircraft carrier. After serving 12 years as a Navy pilot, he left and continued flying for various commercial companies. By the time he retired from flying, he had flown to all continents except Antarctica delivering many different kinds of cargo, including medical relief to Soviet Georgia and a Russian circus in Central America. The last years were hundreds of flights to Maastricht, Netherlands for Emery Worldwide. Bruce married his high school sweetheart Diane Dameron in 1958. His late son David Bruce Plummer was born in San Diego, California the following year. Daughter Julia Diane Plummer was born at another Naval stop in Milton, Florida in 1961. After many moves for Bruce's flying career, the final stop was in Saline, Michigan for 23 years. Upon retirement Bruce and Diane returned to their home state of Arkansas and settled in Heber Springs. They enjoyed a number of years camping with the Arkansas Good Sam chapter, Sugarloaf Sams. Bruce didn't have any particular hobbies except helping other people; in the neighborhood, in his travels, and as a dedicated volunteer for Cleburne County Cares from 1997 until just before he became ill in July. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Ethel (Brown) Plummer, sister Elizabeth (Bob) Harder, brother, Albert, sister Lois, brother, Charles (Barbara), and son, David Bruce Plummer. Bruce is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane, daughter, Julia Plummer-Lynch and son-in-law Greg Lynch of Heber Springs; daughter-in-law, Mysti Plummer of Ypsilanti, Michigan; granddaughter, Ember Plummer and grandson, Kai Plummer also of Ypsilanti. Also surviving is granddaughter, Meghann Plummer (Matt) McNamara whose wedding was in upstate New York on Saturday, August 16. Sadly, Bruce was to have walked her down the aisle in place of her father, late son David. Other survivors, his twin brother, Glen Brown (Sallie) Plummer of Richardson, Texas; sister-in-law, Barbara Plummer of Chevy Chase, Maryland; former sister-in-law, Audrey Plummer of Richardson, Texas; special nieces, nephews, cousins and rescue dog Sadie. He leaves behind a host of friends in Michigan, Arkansas and many other places. Bruce has been cremated. Services will be a memorial service at Olmstead Chapel in Heber Springs, Saturday, August 23rd at 2 p.m. A service will be held in Marianna, Arkansas on Friday, August 29th at noon at the First Christian Church where he grew up and his mother (who lived to 99) was a life-long member. The service will be followed by a lunch at the church, furnished by the congregation, and then burial in the Plummer plot in Cedar Heights Cemetery, Marianna. Dating to the 1800's, buried there are his great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, son David and other relatives. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Cleburne County Cares-2016 Hwy. 25N, Heber Springs, Ark. 72543. Arrangements by Olmstead Funeral Home. www.olmstead.cc.
