William "Mr. Bill" Barnes

William R. "Mr. Bill" Barnes, age 80, of the Green Hill community, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born July 26, 1934 in Drew County to the late Edward A. Barnes and Sally LaFoon Barnes. He was a retired department manager with Burlington Industries with 43 years of service. Mr. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He was loved very much by all of his former Burlington Industries employees. He was a member of Second Baptist Church for 60 years where he served as a Deacon for many years, taught the Men's Sunday School class for many years and also served on various church committees. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joe Ed Barnes and a daughter-in-law, Nicki Barnes. Survivors include his wife, Mavis Worbington Barnes of Monticello; one son, Richard Barnes of Monticello; one daughter, Karen Barnes of Little Rock; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Barnes of Monticello; three sisters, Janet Lawton of Russelleville, Margaret Ann Graves of Monticello and Bernice Waldrip of Forney, Texas; one grandson, Josh Barnes of Monticello; two granddaughters, Jade Beer and husband, Jason of Monticello and Jessica Storm and husband John of Monroe, La.; five great-grandchildren, Simon, Sydney, John Michael, Charlee and Macee. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel by Rev. Ray Hearron. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery in Drew County. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund, 1032 Old Warren Road, Monticello, Ark. 71655.
