Our sister, ROSE "ROSIE" MARIE NABHOLZ, 81, of Little Rock took her final trip on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 and was welcomed into eternal life by our loving God. Rose was born Jan. 27, 1933 in Little Rock to Anton Martin Nabholz and Clara Marie Nabholz. She was preceded in death by her parents; a niece, Lilli Ann Hess McGinn, a great-niece, Clara Jacques; and a great-nephew, Scott David Zingaretti. She is survived by five sisters, Theresa Bartlett of Pittsburgh, Pa., Carolyn (Frank) McCauley of North Little Rock, Lillian Hess of Little Rock, Marjorie (Jim) Johnson of St. Peters, Mo., and Antonia (George Huse) Nabholz of Danbury, Conn.; one brother, Michael (Pam) Nabholz of San Diego, Calif.; and 20 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many special friends and her beloved dogs, Bella and Tess, who will miss her very much. Rosie was very active in her church community of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church. She served as a Eucharist minister, lector, liturgy commission member, Seniors group, the Altar Society and in countless other ways. Rose attended primary school at St. Edward School in Little Rock, graduating in 1946. She then attended Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock and graduated in 1950. After graduation, she put her excellent secretarial skills to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1950 to 1954. She continued this line of work with her next employer L.B. Leigh & Co. In 1957 she embarked upon her career in the insurance industry with Williams & Rosen, Inc., which became, Atkins Ins. Corp, then Mark V. Williamson Co. Inc. From 1982 to 1996, she was employed by Rebsamen Insurance, later Regions, retiring in 1998, but continuing part-time until 2012. Through the years, she became involved with numerous organizations. A friend asked her to join the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and she eventually served as Secretary to the President. She made her first retreat at Coury House, Subiaco in 1963 and later served on the Abbey Retreat League. She was also very active in the Catholic Business Women's Club in Little Rock. While she worked at Rebsamen, she was asked to join Optimist Club of West Little Rock. One of the main fundraisers for that Optimist Club was selling Christmas trees at a lot in Little Rock. She very much enjoyed this project although she was very busy from Thanksgiving to several days before Christmas. She was a member of three different Optimist clubs: West Little Rock, Central Little Rock and Rosedale, for more than 30 years. She held many leadership positions over the years, including club president, club secretary treasurer, Arkansas District Lt. Governor and was chairperson over many arenas. In 2007 she was recognized as Arkansas District "Optimist of the Year" and again in 2012 for her years of dedicated and tireless service to the district. While an Optimist, Rose became involved in the Optimist Hearing Foundation of Arkansas and served on the board for 15 years. The foundation's goal is to provide assistance to groups or projects involved with the hearing impaired of Arkansas or to purchase hearing impaired equipment. Due to her service on that board she was appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology by Governor Mike Beebe. Mount St. Mary Academy honored her as the alumnae of the year in 2008 because of her dedication to alumnae activities. She made many special friends through her involvement in all these organizations. In her later years, she developed a special love for Ireland and traveled there several times. A special thanks is extended to the staff at Good Shepherd Nursing/Rehabilitation facility for the professional and compassionate care that they showed Rosie during her short stay. Donations/memorials can be made to Coury House, Subiaco Ark.; Mount St Mary Academy in Little Rock; Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church; the Optimist International Foundation, 4404 Lindell Blvd, St Louis, Mo. 63108.
