Mildred Robinson Galloway

Mrs. Mildred Robinson Galloway, age 94, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Monday, August 25, 2014, at Wadley Regional Medical Center at Hope. She was born November 30, 1919, the oldest of ten siblings, born to Ben and Pearl Prince Robinson, in Hempstead County, Arkansas. Mrs. Galloway worked at the Hope Proving Grounds during WWII, making blueprints for the U.S. Government. She was a share croppers daughter, loved working in the fields and had great pride in raising her brothers and sisters. She served as a telegraph operator in Southern California, later coming back to hope to teach sewing at the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Mrs. Galloway was employed for 21 years, at Meyers Bakery, she then attended College at Henderson State University when she retired. She volunteered for 28 years, in the Hempstead County Extension Homemakers Council, and served as a President and was named the Extension Councils Homemaker of the year, helping judge food at county fairs. Mrs. Galloway loved working with the children in the 4-H Club on numerous projects. She was very active in Unity Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for 50 years, and helping with the Children in AWANAS and Vacation Bible School. She treasured Unity Baptist Church members and considered them part of her family. She had a smile for everyone she met. Mrs. Galloway was preceded in death by her parents, husband of Lynn "Jack" Hayes Galloway of 52 years, brothers, Laymon and Raymond Robinson, sister, Ann Butler, Vonnie Haltom, Doris Jones, and Erma Viarengo. Mrs. Galloway is survived by her sons, Dwight Galloway and wife Martha of Columbia, South Carolina and Joel Hayes Galloway of Little, Arkansas, daughter, Robyn McMurry and husband Johnny of Monticello, Arkansas, sisters, Martha Sallee, of Hope, Delores "Kitten" Purtle of Hope, and Janell Messer of Perrytown, Arkansas, grandchildren, Amanda Galloway, Logan Galloway, John McMurry, Olivia McMurry and Ben McMurry, great-grandchildren, Jack, Hayes, Hudson and Ford. Visitation for Mrs. Galloway will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope. Funeral service for Mrs. Galloway will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home, with Bro.
