Edna Hawks Overstreet

Edna Hawks Overstreet joined her Lord and Savior in her heavenly home on December 7, 2014 along with the love of her life, Wesley Overstreet. She was 99 years of age. Visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., both at the First Baptist Church in Augusta, Ark. She was laid to rest in the Augusta Memorial Park with Thompson-Wilson Funeral directors in charge of arrangements. Edna was born on August 4, 1915 in Fitzhugh, Ark., the daughter of Charlie and Dollie O'Shields Hawks. She was married to Wesley Overstreet, who preceded her in death. She had been a widow since 1964 and had been in the retail business most of her adult life. She owned her own business for 25 years, the first quick stop in Augusta, Ark., "The Night and Day" food mart. Edna was the oldest of six girls and all were living until this year, 2014. She had three brothers who lived into their 70s and 80s. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Augusta First Baptist Church. Edna loved her church and her family. Survivors include four sisters, Willie Anderson of Oregon, Josie Fitzpatrick, Ruth Bryant and Lottie Bowen, all of Augusta; as well as many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Dollie Hawks; one sister, Fannie Rinehart Johnson; three brothers, Wesley, Aaron and Clamon Hawks.
