John Charles Ward

John Charles Ward was born Nov. 2, 1935 to John Hamby and Inez (Scantlin) Ward in Bradford, Ark. He departed this life at age 78. John was formerly of Bradford, but was most recently a resident of Lindley Health and Rehab in Newport, Ark. John served as a firefighter for 36 years with the Houston Fire Department, retiring as a District Chief in 1992. John was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Iva Francis Carlyle Ward. John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carole (Helms) Mason Ward of Newport; one daughter, Susan Cutshall; one stepson, Michael Mason; one stepdaughter, Denise Haigwood; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Heard Cemetery.
