John David "JD" Langrell of Maumelle, Arkansas, passed away in his home on Monday, February 3, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman Cleo and Hazel Estelle Billings Langrell, of White Hall, Arkansas, and his infant son, Baby Langrell. He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Ann Seward and her husband Ricky, of Maumelle, and Rhonda Langrell Benton and husband Clark, of Little Rock; and his sister and her husband, Marilyn Langrell and Michael R. Dennis of Cypress (Houston metro) Texas. Other survivors include his granddaughter, Savannah Kay Fikes, of Maumelle; grandsons Daniel Wills and David Langrell Crabb, of Little Rock; niece Tracey Michele Dennis, of Little Rock; the mother of his children, Mary Lou Langrell, of Bryant, Arkansas; and many cousins, relatives and friends. He graduated from White Hall High School in 1958, and enlisted in the United States Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged in 1962. He began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1962. During his career, he worked in Pine Bluff and Little Rock, Arkansas, and later transferred to Denver, Colorado, to work for Mountain Bell Telephone. In 1986-87 he was selected as a consultant for a long-term assignment to Martin Marietta in Chevy Chase (Washington DC metro), Maryland. He retired from Mountain Bell after thirty years of service with the Bell system, as a Network Engineering and Design Area Manager, and returned from Denver to live in central Arkansas to be closer to his family. A true Southern gentleman, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He believed in keeping his mind sharp, was a fierce intellectual and an avid reader, and most of all, a proud grandfather. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 06, 2014, at 4:00 pm in the afternoon at Roller- Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 224-8300.
