Evelyn Lucille White, age 89, of Carlisle, Arkansas, died Monday, February 10, 2014. She was born on February 27, 1924 to Phillip and Beulah Mask. She married James Wesley (Jimmie) White on June 1, 1940, and they remained devoted to each other until his death in 2003. She and Jimmie purchased a farm in 1948 in the Plainview community near Carlisle where they raised their children, daughter Brenda White Halijan and son, the late Larry Wesley White, and were community leaders. She joined the Hebron United Methodist Church in 1940, where she remained an active member for the next 74 years. She served in nearly every leadership capacity in the church, including decades as choir director, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and a member of countless church committees. Family and faith were the centerpieces of her life. A dedicated Christian, she strived her entire life to be the good and faithful servant she was called to be. She was also an extraordinary and dedicated mother, both to her own family and in a broader sense to those around her in the church and community. As in the verse from Proverbs, "Her children arise up, and call her blessed." Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Brenda Halijan, and husband Frank, of Carlisle; sister, Lillie Mae Gibbins (Buddy) of Lonoke; grandchildren Douglas Halijan of Memphis, Tennessee, Darin Halijan and daughter Dara of Carlisle, Dean Halijan (Christie) of North Little Rock, Melanie White Morris of Searcy, Amanda White Forrest-Lam (James) of Virginia, and Jennifer White Barnett of Rogers; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three godchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Beulah Mask; her husband, Jimmie White; her son, Larry White; three brothers, Clifford Mask, Clarence Mask and Rev. Corbett Mask, and one sister, Mary Catherine Graves. The family would like to thank the staff at Chambers Nursing Home for the love and care they provided to her over the past 18 months. The funeral will be held at Hebron United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12 at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe. Memorials may be made to the Hebron United Methodist Church, Carlisle, Ark. 72024. Arrangements by Westbrook, a Smith Family Funeral Home. www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
