Raymell Pound Riggs

Raymell Pound Riggs of Cabot went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2014, at the age of 76. She was born on March 12, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Nina Kinney Pound and Raymond C. Pound. She was a 1955 graduate of Little Rock Central High School. She obtained a BA in elementary education at University of Central Arkansas and a Master's Degree in education at Ouachita Baptist University. She taught a host of fifth graders at Jacksonville Public Schools and in 1972 transferred to Cabot East Side Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church since 1972. For many years she served as church organist, taught children's Sunday school classes, and worked with the youth groups, as well as serving in the Women's Missionary Union and one-on-one ministering to others. Her interests included camping, growing flowers, music, spectator sports of all kinds, and she was the baseball and softball scorekeeper for 45 years. She traveled with her grandson to China in 2005 where they witnessed to the Chinese children and taught them English. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joe Riggs, of the home; son, John Riggs and wife, Cheri, of Cabot; grandson Jeffrey Riggs and wife, Molly, of Conway; aunt, Jane Kinney, of Little Rock; cousin, Sharon Lillo and husband, Art, of Mulberry; Susan Riggs, of Cabot, and a host of friends. Visitation will be Thursday, February 13, from 4 p.m. to 6: p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, February 14, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor David Mitchell officiating and eulogy by John Riggs. Interment will be at Rest Hills in Sherwood.
