James Henry Davis

Dr. James Henry Davis, age 77, of Norman, Ark., died February 15, 2014. He was born June 19, 1936 to Henry Otis and Anna Ruth King Davis in Little Rock, Ark.. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Nation Honorary Medical Society. He was the Tom T. Ross Public Health Doctor of the year. He attended premed college at Hendrix College, where he lettered in field and track; low and high hurdles. He graduated from UAMS in 1962 and was an Intern at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. He was awarded the Mosby Award in Medical School and also the Jeff Banks Award for Anatomy. Dr. Davis strongly encouraged higher education to all children in his county. Mr. Davis' dream from childhood was to become a country doctor, in which he achieved. He practiced for seven years in Salem and Ash Flat, Ark., then in Mt. Ida from 1971-2000. He loved the mountains and the rivers, as well as to hunt and fish with his sons. Jim was an avid conservationist and turned all of his property into multiple use forest to encourage the native flora and fauna. Survived by: wife: June Davis; sons: Mark S. Davis, Clark S. Davis and Wife Karen, Nathan Davis and wife Shari; grandsons: Clayton B. Davis and wife Amber and Kirk A. Davis and wife Donna; granddaughter: Ellie Davis ; great-grandson: Andrew Hunt; great-granddaughter: Addison Davis; brother: Jack Davis and wife Pat; brother-in-law: Ron White; several nieces and nephews. Dr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents. The family of Dr. Davis will have a private home celebration of his life at his request. Memorials may be made to Montgomery County Library, Montgomery County Food Bank and the Gretta Lane Food Bank in Norman. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home.
