Merlin Hopper

Merlin Hopper, age 81, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born October 29, 1932, at Sidon, Arkansas, to Sanford and Mae Gipson Hopper. On August 4, 1955, he married Jackie Lindsey in Searcy, Arkansas. Mr. Hopper was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran who served in a cross-country ski team in Japan. He worked for General Dynamics as an electronics technician building nuclear missiles. In 1963 he moved to Mountain Home, and with his brother Lynn, co-founded Hopper Termite Control. He moved to Heber Springs, Arkansas in 1965 and opened a branch office of the company, then moved back to Mountain Home in 1990. Mr. Hopper was a member of the Mountain Home Church of Christ and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife Jackie Hopper: of the home; two sons: Mark (Julee) Hopper: Mountain Home; and Alan Hopper: Dallas, Texas; a brother: Glenn Hopper: Heber Springs, Arkansas; three grandchildren: Cole (Michelle) Hopper: Ft. Lauderdale, Forida; Conner and Cameron Hopper: both of Mountain Home; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Lynn, Gerald, Carroll and Wilton Hopper; and two sisters: Norma Hopper and Earlene Jones. Visitation will be from noon-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Roller Chapel with Brother Ken Burton officiating. A Graveside Service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sidon Cemetery, Sidon, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home or Hospice of the Ozarks.
