William Gerard Pavlu went to be with his heavenly father on Jan. 17, 2014. He was born June 24, 1924 to the late William and Josephine Pavlu of Houston, Texas. After graduating college, he joined the United States Air Force where he served 28 years, many of them as an Air Force pilot in WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also met his late wife Hazel E. Pavlu, also retired Air Force, during this time. After retiring as a Lt. Colonel, his love for flying never ceased. He never missed an opportunity to stop whatever he was doing to look up into the sky and identify the planes flying overhead. He was very proud to have served his country and always stated he would do it all again if he had a chance. He had a love for life and people. He never met a stranger he could not put a smile on their face. He was especially proud of all his grandchildren and much honored that his granddaughter (Cassandra) followed in his footsteps and joined the Navy. He left behind a sister, Joyce Heiss; sons, Michael Gerard Pavlu and Mark Anthony Pavlu and his wife Shelia; daughter, Michele Renee Merritt; his precious grandchildren, Chase Pavlu, Cassandra Pavlu, Chad Pavlu, Kaeri Beth Delephimne and husband Robert; great grandson, Finn; great granddaughter, Lily; loving companion and friend, Margaret Adams; and the many wonderful friends that he has made throughout the years and kept close to his heart. Not only were we blessed to have him in our lives, but it was an honor. Your presence in our lives will be greatly missed. We love you! Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home in Conway with Fr. Joseph Archibong officiating. Interment will follow at Thorn Cemetery in Greenbrier. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett-Conway. Online guestbook: www.griffinleggettconway.com.
