Martha Virginia (Toby) Carter, 91, of Benton, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014. She was born February 18, 1922 to the late Martin and Grace Huchingson Wills in Benton, Arkansas. Toby retired from Alcoa after serving as manager in the traffic department. After retirement, she traveled extensively to other countries. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Toby was involved in many committees including the UMW. She was a member and leader of B&PW and served on the University of Arkansas Transportation Committee. Toby was actively involved for many years with the Churches Joint Council on Human Needs (CJOHN). She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan Roy Carter; sister, Norma Wills Salley; brother-in-law, Glynn Scott Salley and her brother, Wayne Martin Wills. She is survived by two nieces, Karen Lynn Salley (Larry Laitner) of Ashland, Oregon and Merlyn Salley Caywood (Cecil) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Frances Wills, Pat Carter Ioup (Joe) and Peggy Carter all of Benton and a host of extended family. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 29 at Ashby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30 at First United Methodist Church in Benton with burial at New Rosemont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to CJOHN.
