Marion J. Ballard

Marion J. "Sonny" Ballard, 82, of Cabot passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014. He was born January 9, 1932 in the Hickory Plains, Arkansas community. Mr. Ballard retired from ABF in 1991 after 32 years of service, and logged over one million accident-free miles. When Hurricane Hugo hit the east coast, he volunteered to deliver hurricane relief supplies to the community there. Sonny thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His daily ritual included drinking coffee with his buddies and spending a big part of the day at Randy's car lot. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Sonny was also a 32nd degree Mason and was an active member of Cabot Lodge #319. You could always find him in front of the TV watching most any kind of sports, but especially football and basketball. He will be sorely missed by everyone who loved and knew him. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue Ballard of Cabot; two sons, Jerry Ballard (Carol) of Castle Rock, Colorado, Phillip Ballard (Shasta) of Cabot; one daughter, Teresa Kissell (Jimmy) of Olive Branch, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Melissa Martin, Joe Ballard, Jennifer Bowers, Cydney Ballard, Lauren Ballard, Lilly Ballard and Lindley Ballard and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bessie Ballard; his sister, Meta Baxter, and one son, Troy Ballard. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 in the chapel of Moore's Cabot Funeral Home with Brother Ben Leonard officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Cabot Funeral Home (501) 843-5816. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
