Alice Dorothy Agnes Eggers Sparrow, age 93 of Stuttgart passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014. She was born March 10, 1921 to the late Emil and Ella Wiese Eggers in Pipestone, Minn. She met her future husband, Chester Sparrow, in Los Angeles, Calif. at a P-38 aircraft factory where they worked during World War II. They moved to Little Rock in 1944 and to Stuttgart in 1953. Alice was dedicated to her family and took great pride in them. She was a wonderful cook and loved crocheting afghan blankets for many of her family members and their friends. She was a long time member of the Amici Club where she served as president between 1982-1984. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a faithful member. For years she spent hours making inspirational tray card messages for the hospital patients in Stuttgart. She loved playing cards, listening to Big Band music, and watching "Dancing With the Stars". She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester Sparrow; two brothers, George and Lester Eggers; three sisters, Hilda Rutzen, Irene Trageser, and Norma Freese. She is survived by her son, Jerry (Susan) Sparrow of Stuttgart; step-son, Tom (Sue) Sparrow of LaJolla, Calif.; daughters, Linda McCarty of Stuttgart, Sharon (Bill) Berning of Raleigh, N.C.; a step-daughter, Carol (Jerry) Smith of Arroya Grande, Calif. Alice's beloved grandchildren include: Brian Gibbs, Clay (Liz) Sparrow, Katie (Ryan) Boyd, Rachel (Carlos) Higareda, Annie (Ross) Anderson, Joshua Berning and step grandchildren; Mark Sparrow, Pete (Veronica) Sparrow, Aimee Sparrow; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Eddie Hord, Burk Buerkle, her many caregivers, especially Mattie James, Alma Yarbrough and hospice for their compassionate care of our Mom and Nanny. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church officiated by Ray Vester. Burial will follow in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
