Jack W. Marshall

"Well done my good and faithful servant." Jack W. Marshall was born on November 29, 1923 and left this earthly life on Saturday, July 5, 2014. The oldest of five children, Jack was born in Village, AR to Jack and Dessie Marshall. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge, he attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering. He began his career with McAlester Fuel Company, where he met his future wife-Beryl Jean Barran. He worked for McAlester in Lovington, N.M. and Magnolia where he became chief geologist. He left McAlester and became an independent geologist. Jack was happiest when he was looking for and drilling oil wells. His time spent as an independent geologist was some of the most rewarding. He was a very active member of Central Baptist Church, his community and civic organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings, Dorothy Jean Martin, Sam Marshall and Harry Marshall. Jack is survived by his son, Jack David Marshall of El Dorado, Ark. and friend Nancy Koonce of Hot Springs, Ark.; daughters Laura Jane Powell and husband Jim of Warren, Ark., Susan Jo Ward and husband David of Texarkana, Texas. His favorite topic of conversation were his grandchildren, Lauren Elise Powell Zoretic and husband Tom of Bella Vista, Ark., Matthew Marshall Powell of Little Rock, Ark, Lynley Kay Marshall of Little Rock, Ark., Jack David Marshall Jr. (Jay) of El Dorado, Ark., Kelsey Leigh Ward Crews and husband Kory of San Antonio, Texas, Anna Elizabeth Ward and Marshall Curtis Ward of Texarkana, Texas; great-grandchildren Thomas Allen Zoretic and Joseph James Zoretic of Bella Vista. He is also survived by his brother, Billy Marshall and wife Barbara of Albuquerque, N.M.; several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many great friends. "We have a secret Poppa, We Love You." Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9th at the Central Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Matthew Powell, Marshall Ward, Jay Marshall, Tom Zoretic, and Kory Crews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult I Sunday school class.
