Helen Foster Hodges

Helen Foster Hodges, known by her family as Grandma and G.G. died on July 8, 2014. She was born in Little Rock on May 28, 1920 to the late Ona and George Foster of North Little Rock, Ark. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Charlie. She is survived by her sons, Thomas "Tommy" and wife, Carol of Little Rock and John of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Cathy Hodges, Anne Hodges Kashata (husband, Kris) of Dallas, Texas, Justin Hodges of San Francisco, Calif., and Lindsay Hodges McFee (husband, Walter) of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three great-grandsons, Harrison, Alex and Walker Kashata of Dallas, Texas. She graduated from North Little Rock High School, attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) and was a member of Park Hill Christian Church. In 1957 Helen and Charlie with their sons moved to Hot Springs. She was an avid member of the Hot Springs Bridge House where she earned a life master. At the age of 90, she was playing weekly poker tournaments and regularly eliminating players less than one third her age, and for more than 50 years was a fixture at the races. In her professional life, she was office manager for Gross Mortuary and human resources director for Ouachita Hospital over a combined period of more than 20 years. Family was her life focus and she took great pride in all aspects of their lives. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookfield Assisted Living for adding quality to her final years. A memorial service and visitation will be at Gross Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 and there will be a private interment in Little Rock at Roselawn. Arrangements are by Gross Funeral Home, 120 Wrights Lane, Hot Springs, Ark. 71913.
