Our dear mother, Mary "Virginia" Nix, passed away July 4, 2014. She was 89 years old. She had been ill for two years and had been residing in a nursing home in North Little Rock, Arkansas. A special thanks to those CNA's on "3" who gave us their friendship and support during that time. Mother was born October 29, 1924 in her grandparents' home in Batesville, Arkansas. Her parents were Richard Coleman and Mary Viola Edgeworth. Viola passed away when Mother was four years old and her father married Thelma Skipper the following year. Mother graduated from Little Rock High School (now Little Rock Central High School) in 1941 and married our father, Jack Lancer Nix, in 1944. They had four children, Lis Friedrichs of North Carolina, Virginia "Ginger" Lorman of California, Beckie Paine of Little Rock, and Richard Nix of North Little Rock. Mother has eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her beloved sister, Lisbeth Welborn, lives in Colorado. Our father, Jack Nix, passed away in 1978. Mother joined Highland Methodist Church (now Highland United Methodist Church) when she was 13. As an adult, she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. For more than 25 years Mother taught Sunday school to third and fourth graders, and she also served on the board of the church. Mother loved her church and until two years ago regularly drove herself and friends to and from Sunday services. She was heartbroken when she was no longer physically able to attend. In addition to her church work, Mother enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, and working the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper. Her quick wit, presence, and devotion will be sorely missed by us all. Our family will be at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth (5800 West 12th Street) from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25th for the viewing. Mother's funeral services will be at Highland Valley United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 26th at 1 p.m. with a reception following. Pallbearers will be her son and all of her grandsons. After cremation she will be laid to rest with our father in Little Rock National Cemetery. Online guestbook is available at www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
