Glenn Lewis Dobson Jr.

Glenn Lewis Dobson Jr. of Sheridan, Ark., (and formerly of Dresden, Tenn. & Camden, Tenn.) passed away at his home in Sheridan, Arkansas on July 21, 2014 at the age of 79. He was born near Big Sandy, Tennessee on April 17, 1935. His early childhood education began in a one-room schoolhouse near Big Sandy, Tenn., where his Dad was the teacher, later being taught by his Grandmother Dobson. He graduated from high school in Camden, Tenn. as salutatorian of the class of 1952. In the spring of 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving four years aboard the U.S.S. Mansfield DD728 as sonar seaman first-class. While in the Navy, he met his future wife Glenda Easley of Fullerton, California. After Glenn was discharged from the Navy, he and Glenda were married in June of 1958. They came back home to Tennessee and set up their first home together in Clarksville, where he later graduated from Austin Pea State College. He later received his M.A. from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. By 1963, he began teaching at the University of Tennessee at Martin where he taught until he retired in 1997. Glenn was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, serving the church in Dresden, Tenn. as a deacon and a song leader for many years. Soon after his retirement from UTM, Glenn and Glenda moved from their Dresden home to Sheridan, Ark. to be near family. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Lois Dobson. He was survived by his wife of 56 years, Glenda Dobson of Sheridan, Bethany Dobson of Paris, Tenn.; two sons, David (Margaret) Dobson of Sheridan and Daniel Dobson of San Diego, California. Seven grandchildren, Meagon, Michael, Matthew and Montana of Tennessee and Nathan, Nick & Shayne of Sheridan. Two great-grandchildren, Chelsey and Audrey. Two sisters, Joyce Green of Franklin, Tenn. and Joan (David) Kyles of Finger, Tenn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Glenn was a loving husband, father & grandfather whose love for his family was only surpassed by his love for his God and HIS church. Visitation will be held at the Sheridan church of Christ at 12 noon on Friday July the 25th, and the funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Southern Christian Children's Home at P.O.
