Donald L. Borchert

Donald L. Borchert of Little Rock passed away July 23, 2014 at home under the care of Arkansas Hospice. Born in 1929 at Stuttgart, Arkansas, he was the son of Helena Hahn and Fred Borchert. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Betsy Borchert; daughter, Laurie Ann Ross (Charlie) of North Little Rock; and son, Lee Borchert (Jack Pettit) of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Catherine Ann and Jane Lee Ross; sister, Viola Peacock of Stuttgart; and brothers, Howard (Sallye) of Fort Smith and Max of Stuttgart. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Carl Borchert of Stuttgart and Martin Borchert of Little Rock, and sisters, Esther Borchert of Stuttgart and Dorothy Mae Fell of Trenton, New Jersey. Don retired in 1991 from UAMS after a total of 30 years in hospital administration. He began his career at Forrest Memorial Hospital in Forrest City and then served as Hospital Administrator at Rebsamen Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Don was a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was also a lifetime member of the Arkansas Hospital Association, served on the AHA Board of Directors and was Past President of the Arkansas Hospital Administrators Forum. Don had a great deal of love for his wife, family and friends as well as his church home at Second Presbyterian Church. He was an ordained elder and deacon and served on a number of church ministries including the Worship Ministry, Stewardship Ministry and Personnel Committee. Don had a very generous heart and freely volunteered his time as a past Board member of the Goodland Presbyterian Orphanage (Hugo, Oklahoma), Presbyterian Village, Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement Center, Presbyterian Urban Council, Visiting Nurses Association and Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild. He also volunteered with LifeQuest, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild Orchestra and You Program, and was a past instructor for the AARP Safe Driving Program. Don enjoyed golf, woodworking, cane weaving, gardening and spending time with his granddaughters. He will be missed by the many family members and friends who loved him. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, on Saturday, July 26 at 2 p.m. with a reception following the service.
