Mary Garrett Gillespie Pruett the daughter of Luther Pickney Garrett and Clara Pearl Allen Garrett was born in Sarah, Miss. on March 11, 1917 and passed away at Baptist Medical Center in Heber Springs, Ark. on July 23, 2014 at the age of 97 years. Mary was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of Heber Springs. She had been active in her church all her life. She loved reading and traveling and crafts and activities at Southridge Village Assisted Living Center where she lived. She was a member of the Eastern Star and PEO. Mary worked as a teacher and graduated from Memphis State University and attended Hendrix College and Arkansas State University. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Clara Garrett; her first husband, Richard B. Gillespie; and her second husband, Raymond L. (Ray) Pruett; and a granddaughter, Carrie Elisabeth Gillespie. She is survived by three sons, Rick Gillespie and wife Jeanie of Seymour, Tenn., Ron Gillespie and wife Ramona of Heber Springs and Chris Gillespie and wife Cheryl of Germantown, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Barbara, Gina, Steve, Scott, Mike, Lynn and Ashlee; and 13 great-grandchildren; besides other relatives and many friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Heber Springs and a Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. in the church by Rev. Tommy Toombs and Rev. Charlie Cayton. The family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Heber Springs, 1099 West Pine Street, Heber Springs, Ark. 72543.
