James K. Sims

Mr. James Kenneth Sims, age 82, of Malvern, died Monday night, July 28, 2014 at St. Vincent in Hot Springs. He was born in Henderson, Texas on October 31, 1931 to the late Agnew Sims and Estelle Holland Sims. Reared and receiving his early education in Trout Goodpine, Louisiana, he later attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston. Jim had been a resident of Malvern since 1956. He retired from Hoover in Malvern, and also from Eldercare Insurance Service in Hot Springs. Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church of Malvern, where he attended the Friendship Sunday School Class. A 50-year member of the Rockport Masonic Lodge, he was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. Jim was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elinor Coombe Sims of the home, to whom he was married on April 18, 1954 in the Grand Avenue Methodist Church in Hot Springs; his daughter, Shelly Sims of Hot Springs; three sisters, Tommie Broome (Billy) of Clinton, Mississippi, Zelma Wells (J. D.) of Baton Rouge, and Carolyn Whitehead (Malcolm) of Natchez, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Lyle Hibbs (Holly) and John Bettis (Lyndsey); four great-grandchildren, Christian, Savannah, and Jack Hibbs, and Lyla Bettis, all of Hot Springs. The family will receive friends at J.A. Funk Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday morning, August 1, 2014 in the chapel of J.A. Funk Funeral Home with the Reverends LaVon Post and George Rook officiating. Graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday afternoon with full military honors provided by United States Army Honor Guard and the Thaddeus Carraway Post 2278, VFW out of Hot Springs. Pallbearers will be Jack Phillips, Charles Chunn, Lyle Hibbs, Christian Hibbs, John Bettis, and Jeff Harlan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Snyder, James Crowder, Gifford Green, Steve Efird, Chris Williams, Ralph Williams, Lew Waniewski, Friendship Sunday School Class, and P.E.O.
