Ruby Terry de Linde

Ruby Terry de Linde, 86, Hot Springs, Arkansas died on June 15, 2014. She was born on July 6, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late John Thomas Terry and Lena Beyer Terry. Ruby attended elementary schools in Little Rock, Arkansas and graduated from El Paso, Texas High School on January 20, 1944 at age 16. At school she became proficient in shorthand, typing and bookkeeping. After graduation, returned to Little Rock and began employment with the M.M. Cohn Company as secretary and bookkeeper. At age 19, Ruby was employed as secretary to an office manager at E.L. Bruce (Hardwood) Company, Little Rock, Arkansas. Very active in the United Methodist Church Ruby also served as secretary at Oaklawn United Methodist Church, Hot Springs, Arkansas; St. James United Methodist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas; and Mabelvale United Methodist Church, Mabelvale, Arkansas. Ruby met Henry de Linde in 1935 as she, her father and sisters walked by the de Linde home on their way to a nearby streetcar line. In 1945 Henry returned from overseas service during World War II to discover Ruby had matured into a beautiful young woman. Ruby and Henry were married on March 28, 1947 and have enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Ruby was devoted to all the cares and concerns for her family and as an excellent seamstress, made many of her children's clothing including a wedding gown for her daughter. Ruby lived an admirable life and lifestyle that now appears to be relegated to history. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Her mother died when she was six years old followed by the death of her father ten years later at El Paso, Texas. Cherishing her memory are husband, Henry de Linde, three children: Susan Hunter, (Doug), Hot Springs, Arkansas; Steve de Linde, (Lynda) Hot Springs, Arkansas, Mark de Linde, (Jody), Owensville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are provided by Gross Funeral Home, Hot Springs, Arkansas. Visitation will be at Oaklawn United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 18 at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. service to follow. Casual wear is encouraged. A private graveside service is scheduled at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Alexander, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Steve de Linde, Mark de Linde, Jacob de Linde, John Kew, Barry Kew, Ronald Kew, and Travis de Linde. A special thanks to the Oaklawn United Methodist Church and pastor Fred Hunter, friends, doctors, nurses, medical staffs and care facilities who have provided support and care for Ruby and the de Linde family.
