Dr. Dwight Wayne Miller

Dr. Dwight Wayne Miller, Ph.D., 67, of White Hall, Ark., died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in New Mexico. He was born July 27, 1946 in Tulsa, Okla., son of James Harrison Miller and Leatha Earp Miller. Dr. Miller was reared and received his early education in Poteau, Okla., graduating from Poteau High School. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oklahoma State University, earning his Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry. Dr. Miller completed his post-doctoral training at Florida State University. He worked as a research chemist at the National Center for Toxicological Research (FDA) in Jefferson, Ark. for 27 years. Dr. Miller was a very active member of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was a deacon and active in children's and youth ministries. Dr. Miller was active in Boy Scout Troop 106 for over 30 years, having served as the head scout master for the last 10 years of the troop. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, James Harrison Miller II. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burt Miller, whom he married March 21, 1970 in Oklahoma; two daughters, Michell Elaine Coats of Bartlesville, Okla. and Melinda Laine Miller of White Hall; son, Dwight Wayne Miller II of Granger, Ind.; and five grandchildren, Caleb Coats, Samantha Coats, Trey Miller, Harrison Miller and Katelyn Miller. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff with Reverend Kenneth Thornton officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson's.
